Winter and Summer Film Projects on Baffin Island

2009 saw my third year returning to Baffin Island, collecting evidence of the changes taking place in the arctic for my school outreach work. I am delighted to be able to show you two short films about my adventures in this remote but beautiful part of the world. The first film is a film edited by film maker Lizzie Toms and taken by myself for BBC Inside Out. The second, edited by Plymouth Art College student Amanda Buckley and filmed by Josephine Beynon. School Outreach in Full Swing

It has been a very busy and rewarding year this year out on the expedition trail, completing no less than 5 expeditions including 4 in the arctic. Crossing Greenland – 19th April 2009

Well it is now just a few days until I depart again and head out once more to the Arctic. This time I am part of a team skiing 550 km across the massive Greenlandic Ice Cap. I am currently living in a building site and getting ready for the next expedition is no easy task but one you have to laugh at. My kitchen is un-usable as the ceiling is being taken down so its back to cooking on a stove, just like being on expedition.

Plymouth Herald – Welcomed Home by Lord Mayor Brian Vincent

The explorer, who celebrates his 28th birthday today, described the Arctic as the ‘front line of climate change’ and said the landscape, people and wildlife were already seeing dramatic, sometimes devastating, effects. He was yesterday welcomed home by Plymouth Lord Mayor Brian Vincent, who described the trip as ‘inspirational’.

Competition for Schools

This competition is open to schools children as part of my on going school outreach project. The competition is for an expedition logo. The logo needs to be in connection with the arctic and can cover any aspect of arctic life, from expedition life to wildlife, landscape or the Inuit culture.

I will pick 3 designs who will each receive a Pangnirtung Hat.

Join Girls on Ice 2009

This is a unique opportunity for students to join a earth science scientific expedition in the USA. The project is open to girls between 15 and 18 from all over the world. Tuition is free. Girls will have to provide transportation to Seattle and minimal equipment and clothing.
