PLYMOUTH SKI TO THE NORTH POLE EVENT
30th October – 1st November 2009, Drake Circus Shopping Mall
Firstly thank you for agreeing to support the above event. “The Drake Foundation”:http://www.drakefoundation.co.uk/ is excited to be organising an event with Antony Jinman to ski 600 miles to the North Pole in just three days. This is where we need your help! There will be prizes for the person who ski’s the most miles and the most money raised.
Who is Antony Jinman?
Antony Jinman has an ambition to be the first British explorer to achieve the polar grand slam. This involves Skiing across Greenland, to the North and South Pole within 12 months. He has dedicated the last three years to training and inspiring youngsters through educational presentations and reporting back to the classrooms via satellite on climate change. He has kindly agreed to help the Drake Foundation raise funds for the Plymouth community and volunteer groups. Come along and meet him on the day. See his great photos and video footage. Ask him questions about his polar experience! What is it like living with the Inuit community, sleeping in conditions at -50 degrees and seeing polar bears roaming free, you will be amazed.
What is the Drake Foundation?
We are a local community charity, covering the Plymouth travel to work area, supporting small voluntary and community groups by providing grants to help their cause. We help companies and individuals who want to give something back to their community by supporting a wide range of local causes. We are working in partnership with Devon Community Foundation on the Plymouth Grassroots Challenge. This has helped to secure £150,000 of grants that has been given back to 49 voluntary and community groups in the Plymouth region. With your help we plan to provide and additional £200,000 in grants by March 2011.
How can you help?
Nuffield Gym are supplying 3 cross trainers for the event. We would like a team of six people to cover a one hour slot, skiing for ten minutes each per person. There is a sponsorship form enclosed and we would really appreciate you collecting as much sponsorship as possible. Not only will family and friends know that you are going to have a tough workout, but they can be reassured that the money you raise will go back to the people of Plymouth.
Where and when?
The event will take place in the “Plymouth City Shopping Centre “Drake Circus””:http://www.drakecircus.com/ on the first floor outside Mark & Spencer. The area will be clearly signposted, please report to a Drake Official on the day. The event will cover three days starting Saturday 30th October to Sunday 1st November 2009.
