Introducing Like to Be
Since it began ETE has delivered over 800 Polar Activity Days in schools across the UK and internationally. Whilst delivering these activity days Antony realised that it was not possible, or cost-effective for explorers to visit every school in the UK. Instead, a website was created to deliver polar resources and to increase outreach.
Following feedback from students and teachers Antony learned that mentors could come from a wide range of backgrounds, helping to enrich the classroom experience in all subjects and felt compelled to continue this grassroots career guidance initiative in primary schools.
Currently in the UK there is no career guidance service for primary education. Teachers are struggling to make subjects real and engaging for primary schools and are dependant on asking favours of their parent network to come in and raise the aspirations and to give career guidance talks to their pupils.
Like to Be provides a digital solution by allowing professional people and organisations to create videos, photos and blogs about their chosen careers so that pupils can see what they could be doing in the future and have the ability to ask questions and debate topics online. In doing so this helps to make subjects real and engaging.
We aim to raise the aspirations of our next generation and to improve social mobility within the UK, by connecting students with professionals for impartial, real world online careers advice.
